HISTORY
Create Africa South was established on two principles:
- "In the spirit of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, its premise has been that in order to heal, the individual has to be heard and their individual history must be honoured."
- "To develop, preserve and publish, exhibit or market South African creativity, both in the visual and literary arts."
To this end the seminal project of Create Africa South, Amazwi Abesifazane (Vocies of Women) was started. A memory retrieval and archival
project, deals with the memories of the women of South Africa. Memories are digitally preserved and accessible through a website and
exhibitions. Visual arts education and exhibitions are promoted through the Tito Zungu Trust Fund. Literature is promoted by the Mazisi
Kunene Foundation.
In an endeavour to acknowledge individuals holistically, a course has been developed in Zulu to deal with human and sexual rights. The
body is the first creative interface of the individual with society. KwaZulu-Natal is the epicenter of the HIV/Aids epidemic.
The need for small interest-free loans by emerging small crafting businesses as well as skill upgrade for crafters have also been
addressed.

WHO WE ARE
ANDRIES BOTHA, Chairman
 |
| CAS Founder (On the left) |
Andries Botha (www.andriesbotha.co.za) is a South African sculptor working and exhibiting locally and
internationally. His work wrestles with notions of identity and engages issues of archive and witnessing
historical transitions. Botha sees his personal creativity and social activism as confluent realities and
has worked extensively to put into place a series of public projects that reflect these concerns.
MAZISI KUNENE, Trustee
Mazisi Kunene is one of Africa's senior poets. His creative writing explores the complexity of indigenous
Zulu knowledge systems and their delicate intersection with a world dominated by contemporary technologies.
His powerful documentations remind us of the poignancy of cultural neglect and historical abuse. Kunene
has worked tirelessly to seek for synthesis between his creativity and his passion for a political
culture of humanity in South Africa. During his many years in international exile from apartheid, he
worked passionately to establish external political and cultural structures for the then banned African
National Congress.
JANINE ZAGEL
Janine Zagel, Executive Officer of Create Africa South, implementing those decisions taken by the Chairman and the Trustees.
